Mega Recruitment Drive for Railway Protection Force (RPF) & Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) – 2024
The Ministry of Railways, Government of India, has announced a massive recruitment drive to fill up 4208 vacancies for the post of Constable (Executive) in the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) across the country.
About Indian Railways and RPF/RPSF
The Indian Railways operates one of the largest rail networks globally, with a track length of over 126,000 km across a multi-gauge network. It is overseen by the Ministry of Railways, which ensures safe and efficient rail transport for passengers and freight nationwide.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) are the exclusive security forces of Indian Railways. Their role is to safeguard railway passengers, property, premises, and operations against any unlawful acts, sabotage, or threats. This large-scale recruitment aims to strengthen their pan-India presence.
Job Profile – Constable (Executive)
As a Constable (Executive) in RPF/RPSF, the selected candidates will be responsible for maintaining law and order at railway premises, providing security cover to railway assets, passengers, and personnel. Their duties will include:
- Patrolling
- Crowd management
- Investigation of crime
- Anti-sabotage measures, among other security-related tasks
Vacancy Details
The total number of vacancies to be filled through this recruitment is 4208, including reservations as per government norms for SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS, and Ex-Servicemen categories.
Pay Scale & Allowances
- Starting pay: ₹21,700 per month as per Level 3 of the 7th Central Pay Commission matrix.
- Additional allowances: DA, HRA, TA, etc., as per the rules of the Indian Railways.
Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualifications
- 10th pass or equivalent from a recognized board.
- Candidates awaiting final results need not apply.
Age Limit (as on 01.07.2024)
- Between 18 to 28 years.
- Relaxation of 3 years beyond the prescribed age limit as a one-time COVID relief measure.
- Further age relaxation applicable for reserved categories.
Medical Standards
- Candidates must qualify the medical standards of Category B-1 as per the Indian Railway Medical Manual.
- Candidates with flat foot, knock knees, vision issues, etc., will be deemed unfit.
Application Fee
- Unreserved/EWS candidates: ₹500 (₹400 refundable after CBT)
- SC/ST/Ex-Servicemen/Female/Minority/EBC candidates: ₹250 (fully refundable after CBT)

The selection process will include:
- Computer-Based Test (CBT)
- Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
- Physical Measurement Test (PMT)
- Document Verification
